Gospel@Valenza 16-19 June 2017
You can participate in Gospel Choir workshops, Gospel Band workshops, Lead Singing workshops and Solo Master-class*. Request the workshops you would like to attend in order to receive preparation notes. *Please note that the Solo Master-class is subject to tutor approval and require an advanced skill level.
Gospel Choir Workshops
Gospel Choir Workshop is open to ALL singers at all levels. Participants will expand their skills in gospel singing, with a focus on voice projection, diction, dynamics, rhythm, expression, choreography and performance. All songs taught will be performed at Sunday’s Concert.
There will be three gospel choir workshop groups: JSC (members only), Yellow Diamond, Blue Diamond.
Gospel Band Workshop
Learn how to play the gospel arrangements of three of the workshop songs plus a short overture for performance at Sunday’s Concert. Music will be sent to you in advance. Learn about gospel chord progressions; develop your left hand bass lines. Create lush chords. Learn how to ‘sit in the groove’ and contribute to the drama of the gospel band and choir. This workshop provides opportunities for confident (intermediate to advanced) pianists, guitarists, percussion, bass guitarists, horn players and drummers.
Gospel Lead Singing Workshop
Explore how to use the body in gospel-singing techniques, vocal dynamics and story-telling. Learn how the lead voice works with the choir, band and choral director to deliver a seamless performance. The songs learnt in this workshop will be the lead parts for the workshop choir songs and therefore participants on this workshop must be available for Sunday’s Concert. You should be at an intermediate to advanced level of vocal skills. You can nominate yourself for this workshop, however the tutor will determine who will represent the choir to sing the lead at the concert.
Gospel Solo Singing Masterclass*
We will give four advanced soloists the opportunity to work with our tutors to develop a pre-chosen song (backing track to be supplied by you) for performance at Saturday’s Open Gospel Night. Please send a video recording** of yourself singing to email@example.com for selection purposes. *Tutor approval needed. **Phone recording is acceptable.
Gospel Choral Leadership Consultation
Having a sound pedagogy to implement your vision of your choir is important. From choosing the right repertoire for your choir to organising a good rehearsal for your choir (warmups, exercises, teaching, directing and creating gospel arrangements and harmonies), every choir leader occasionally needs a refresher course, some new ideas, skills or just advice. You can book an informal consultation slot for 30mins across the weekend and get practical help in any area. Limited slots available so book early to avoid disappointment.
